Tasting Notes:

This wine is at once both fresh and rich, classic pears and apples, white peach, and star fruit combine with vanilla and floral notes that are wrapped in a creamy, waxy mouth feel. All of these elements are balanced with nice acidity. The finish is long and old-world, reminiscent of lemon meringue.

The goal with our Washington State Chardonnay is to find that beautiful balance of fruit, acid, wood, and malo-lactic, marrying all of those characters together in harmony without one component overpowering the others. Peter, in the cellar, describes our Chardonnay as “one that has weight, yet seems weightless”. We accomplish this style through the combination of vineyard sources, barrel fermentation in all French oak—only 25% of which are new barrels—lees stirring, and a partial malo-lactic fermentation.

Other Notes:

Vineyard Sources: 43% Celilo, 29% White Salmon & 28% Gamache

Barrel Aging: 9 months

About Devona:

Devona is the longtime aspiration of Winemaker John Abbott and his wife, Molly. With this winery, and the addition of Oregon Pinot Noir to the cellar, we bring our winemaking career full circle from where our interest in wine first began at Oregon State University in the late 1980's.

The four varietals that we produce, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot are each special to us. We have been making wine for more than 25 years and have enjoyed a successful history with each of these varietals at different times in our career. Pinot Noir is the most recent addition to our collection, and it's like meeting up with an old friend.
