Devona - 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon

$75.00
Running Low

5 cases available.

Devona is a new project from winemaker John Abbott, previously at Abeja, where he showed his mastery of Cabernet Sauvignon. Coming from 1972 plantings at this vineyard, the aromas start out subtle, with notes of graphite, vanilla, raspberry cordial and spice. Well-balanced, creamy-feeling coffee and cherry flavors follow, showing a sense of sophistication, particularly for such a warm vintage.

Tasting Notes:

This wine has been a long time in the making. Of all of our varietals, it has the longest total production time, spending as much as two years in the barrel. Once bottled, it rests for another two years or more before release. We poured this wine as a barrel sample at our launch party in the summer of 2016. It was showing beautifully then, which is a bit unusual for such a young wine, and it has only gotten better with time.

I can honestly say that I have walked nearly every block of the 345 acres that make up Bacchus and Dionysus, and the rows that are grown for us in this old-vine fruit are like old friends. We have been working with fruit from this exceptional vineyard since 1997 and this particular block since 2002.

About Devona:

Devona is the longtime aspiration of Winemaker John Abbott and his wife, Molly. With this winery, and the addition of Oregon Pinot Noir to the cellar, we bring our winemaking career full circle from where our interest in wine first began at Oregon State University in the late 1980's.

The four varietals that we produce, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot are each special to us. We have been making wine for more than 25 years and have enjoyed a successful history with each of these varietals at different times in our career. Pinot Noir is the most recent addition to our collection, and it's like meeting up with an old friend.
